Why see Flashdance?

WHAT A FEELING!

Feisty 80s heroine Alex Owens is back and lighting stages of the US on fire with her sizzling dance routines in Flashdance The Musical, a touring production based on the iconic film. With a score including legendary hits like I Love Rock 'N' Roll and Manhunt (the production also includes 16 brand new songs composed by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary), and a plot almost tailor made for musical theatre, it's no wonder the cult classic is celebrating its 30th anniversary!

Adorn your finest tube socks, back comb that hair and get ready to have the words to What A Feeling stuck in your head till kingdom come!

WHAT IS FLASH DANCE ABOUT?

Alex is a young welder with dreams of becoming a professional dancer at a prestigious ballet school, and is stifled by the limitations of her small town in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her lack of self-belief. While moonlighting as a dancer in a seedy nightclub, she catches the eye of her boss at the steel mill and the two begin a relationship that might just end up standing in the way of her aspirations.

Did I see the show on a night with understudies??

I wondered how they were going to interpret this movie for a show - they did an ok job with that. My gripe is that the leads (on the night I saw it) were definitely not the quality of talent that I expected. "Alex" had a great voice - but was severely lacking in the dance category ....and it's a show about a dancer! When she came out on stage for the first dance scene, my daughter and I looked at each other in shock! So, overall I was disappointed with the quality, not the show itself. ... Read more

inspirational Success

Yes, it differs from the movie, but richens the message. The rearrangement is fresh; the performances outstanding! The female characters are excellent singers, dancers, and performers. Nick was not as realistically powerful in his performance as the females, but still solid nonetheless. If you loved the movie it is outstanding. If you never saw the movie it is still a very dynamic arrangement and performance. Broadway in your backyard, nice concept! Broadway caliber performances in your back yard...brilliant! Loved it and still remain inspired by its delivery! ... Read more
