November 21 marked the official opening of David Cales, Harry Clarke. The Off-Broadway production is a solo play, performed by Tony-winning actor Billy Crudup. The Vineyard Theatre had a night of celebrating whilst the critics penned their opinions.
Theatremania praised the play saying, ""this solo play is an undeniably entertaining meditation on identity and deception"". The Hollywood Reporter seemed to have mixed feelings on the play, praising the work of Crudup but disappointed in the story, he states ""a shaggy-dog story that, while it has its entertaining moments and wittily amusing observations, doesn't add up to very much... Crudup nonetheless makes it worthwhile"".
Time Out New York didn't seem excited about the play either, saying ""Harry Clarke is surprisingly thin... And there's something strangely dated about it, too..."" Whereas The New York Times praised Crudup and the play calling it ""masterly"".
Following positive reviews made by some critics, the world-premiere production has been extended through December 17.
